Hello,
Welcome to Newsletter 13. Well, what a very disappointing start to the season with some poor results pre-season, then disaster in the Champions League qualifying. Not that I want to get on my soapbox, but Mr Murray it was plain to see we were going to struggle with the lack of quality players available to Walter and Ally so early on in the season.
Now if the money, he has spent in the last few weeks, had been spent before the season had started then we might have had the quality to get in to the Champions League and Mr Murray, you would have probably came out of that quid’s in, but then again I look at Rangers in a different way, I want Rangers to win at any cost and you want a profit in business.
We have now made a few decent signings and have made a reasonable start to the domestic season. Yes, Big Carlos has gone, Good Luck to the Big Man, he did us proud. It’s just a pity the clause in his contract was agreed in the first place and we end up losing. In my opinion a “Class Defender”
Lets hope we continue with the 100% record through the month and go into the Old Firm match playing well and full of confidence.
SASH BASH 3
Well, yet again the Sash Bash gets bigger and better by the year.
Issue 12+1 Summer 2008
First of all we are now getting a mention on Radio Essex prior to the event and rumour has it that there was a mention of our Bash on Talk Sport’s breakfast show the week after the event
This year, the third Sash Bash, beat all of our expectations. We managed to get an ex Rangers player, Graham “The Choirmaster” Roberts to come along as our guest of honour,
We where entertained by “tunes” from our Radio Carlton DJ. We also had the full compliment of The Corby Purple Star Flute Band to play a couple of sets during the night, and we also had our tattooist’s Graham and Big Al working away all night.
Firstly, the night, or should I say the day, started early with our pre-season match in Germany being shown live in the Pub.
The weather did us proud as well not too hot but at least it stayed dry. Our DJ then quickly got everyone into party mood by blasting out the music.
Our raffle this year was in aid of Haven’s Hospice’s and we raised £600 for this good cause. The winning ticket for the signed Shirt, was drawn by Graham Roberts with the prize going to our very own “Tilbury Jim.” A very happy man indeed. Well Done Jim !! I take it that it is now pride of place back home in Tilbury.
We also had a 90’s signed shirt auctioned for Josh Clarke, Grandson of Rab, one of our members, Josh has been in and out of hospital all of his short life and we hope the £210 raised will help in some small way.
Graham also had some sporting memorabilia for a charity of his own,
with the top prize being “a signed Ricky Hatton Glove” in a glass case. For the second year running, Bassett, walked away with a top prize, that bar of yours must look the b*****ks by now.
It was great to see old friends again and get to know some new faces during the night.
Again the Bash would not be the same without a “caput exuviae” moment as shown above.
Even the early closure due to noise pollution, could not dampen our spirits of a great night had by all.
Thanks has to be given, to Dal and Trish for their hard work organising the event, to anyone not involved in this I can tell you it takes hard work through out the year to get this right and I bet anyone that both Dal and Trish are already doing the spade work for next years Bash. Again well done and thanks to the both of you.!!!
We must also thank Big Chris for his help in setting up the joint night especially the big man’s connections that saw us getting Graham Roberts to attend.
We also need to thank Matt on the Barbecue. John, Dawn and their bar staff and all the volunteers who helped set up and tidy up before and after the night.
Invicta Loyal Challenge Cup II
This annual competition was held in Dartford. It hosted 6 teams, Invicta Loyal, Invicta 1690, Ipswich Loyal, Ulster Scots, Invicta B.J.K and the mighty Britannia Loyal.
Each team was linked up with an ex pro and we were drawn to have ex West Ham star Steve Potts.
Going into the competition, our manager Mr Veitch only insisted that we beat last year’s record of losing every game and not scoring a goal in the whole competition. So we enlisted our younger club members to boost our squad and after several weeks of training by Darren’s kids we signed our new keeper Del “The Cat” Stephenson.
Although we took a well-deserved 2-0 lead in the first game we some how managed to lets this slip and we ended up losing 3-2 in a bruising battle against Invicta BJK In the next match we played like Brazil by passing and moving, we had the Ulster Scots running around like headless chickens but could not get the ball passed their keeper who was in sparkling form, the game finished goalless.
Our third game, I am afraid the wheels come off and we were relegated into the Wooden Spoon play-off
Fourth game we managed to win our second Wooden Spoon in consecutive
years
The one plus of the day was “Social Convener” Del picked up the Golden Boots for player of the tournament.
